Inchara

Inchara  is a foster care initiative for women and children affected or infected by HIV. Under this project three orphan children are paired with a woman to form a foster care unit. The project started in 2008 with the support of Deshpande Foundation with 10 units, involving 30 children, and today reaches out to 200 children and 67 women in 22 villages of Dharwad district, Karnataka. BCT provides the units with appropriate health care and counseling, access to education and nutritious food to enhance their overall well being.

The foster care mothers are trained on appropriate nutrition and care to support the children. Moreover, the project works towards enhancing the economic status of the foster care mothers and increase their self-dependency by providing them with livelihoods opportunities and connecting them to those services and benefits they are entitled to.
